I had the absolute joy of being part of Mary and Karl’s wedding in beautiful San Luis Obispo, and let me tell you: it was the perfect day! Their garden wedding was filled with love, laughter, and some seriously epic dance moves! The venue was a stunning family estate overlooking the rolling hills of Prefumo Canyon, which was the perfect backdrop for their special day.
The reception tables were decorated with thick greenery and colorful florals. It reminded me of a perfect garden escape. The grass was full, the trees had large branches with bright leaves, and an adjacent rose garden added to San Luis Obispo’s natural beauty. Each reception table had multiple images of the couple with their guests. What a delightful touch!
Mary was absolutely radiant- just look at her! The right hair and makeup can make you feel extremely confident on your wedding day. That combined with the pure joy and excitement of the day makes all brides glow.
The day kicked off with a first look that was so sweet. Mary read a heartfelt letter to Karl that she’d been saving since their very first date. You could just feel the love in the air, and honestly, it was one of those moments you wish you could bottle up forever. I’ve seen a lot of weddings, but witnessing that exchange still made me tear up.
First looks are great for a couple reasons. They serve as a way for you to have some private, one-on-one time with your partner before the business of the day takes over. First looks also free up cocktail hour time, because they allow you to take most of your bride and groom portraits and maybe even wedding party/family portraits before the ceremony too.
Their wedding party photos were taken in full sun. It’s important to find a photographer who is great in all lighting conditions.
Their ceremony was a beautiful affair with a live singer who perfectly set the mood. There’s something about live music that brings an extra layer of intimacy to a wedding, don’t you think Mary and her dad made the ceremony arch together too. It’s beautiful! Mary had her grandpa sign the marriage license- so sweet.
Mary and Karl are swing dancers, so it was a given that the dance floor would be lively. The live music continued with music by a local live band, The Gipsy All Stars. It felt like stepping back into the roaring 20s with all that swing jazz. The energy was contagious—everyone was movin’ and groovin’. I may have picked up a few dance moves too.
I ran after their truck to get the shots at the end. Was totally out of breath but the photos were totally worth it!!
